Salha has never known anything other than life in a refugee camp in Chad. She was born in 2004 while her mother was fleeing conflict in North Darfur, Sudan. But Salha sees beauty – painting murals across the exterior walls of her family’s home, as you can see in the picture above.

Justin is now thriving thanks to the SUPREME initiative

A South Sudanese refugee based in Uganda, Justin needed to find ways to support his two younger siblings after the death of their father. He took on casual jobs, laboured at construction sites, loaded trucks. The turning point was when he joined a savings & development group and took on a bakery course. Training gave him hope.

Thanks to a loan he started a business. With the proceeds he bought more equipment and now employs one member of staff. They sell bread, cakes, cupcakes and pizza to the community, a local school and at the local market. Justin now provides for his uncle and his siblings who are in school. He won’t stop there and plans to buy a motorcycle to transport goods, as well as open a shop and a catering training centre. He is a passionate advocate for youth empowerment and wants to give back.
